Goldie Irene Gudde, 87, of Neodesha, Kansas, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, June 19, 2019.

Family will receive friends Sunday, June 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Neodesha. The holy rosary will begin immediately following the visitation. The funeral mass will be held, Monday, June 24, 10 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church with internment at the Neodesha Catholic Cemetery.

Irene was born July 2, 1931 in Neodesha, Kansas to Frank and Myrtle (Seaunier) Smalley. The family lived east of Neodesha. Irene attended school in Morehead and at Center School before graduating from Neodesha High School. Irene continued her education graduating from Bivins Business College in Independence, Kansas. She was employed by Union Gas Company in Independence and was a stenographer and teletype operator in Ft. Lewis, Washington.

In 1951, Irene married William "Bill" Gudde at Ft. Lewis, Washington, where he was stationed with the Neodesha National Guard. In 1953, they made their permanent home east of Neodesha where they farmed and raised their family of five children.

Irene was involved in numerous community organizations and activities. She was a member of the St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Neodesha where she served as past president of the Altar Society. She also served as past president of the Diocesan Coffeyville Catholic Women. She was the past president of the South School PTA and was a National Honorary PTA member. Irene was a Neodesha High School Future Homemakers of America sponsor, a volunteer for the Future Farmers of America hosting judging contests, and served as secretary of the Neodesha High School Alumni Association. She was a former member of the Wilson County Homemakers Unit for over 20 years, a 4-H Club leader, a leader for Rock Springs 4-H Camp, and a Neodesha Fair Judge. She served on the American Cancer Society Board of Southeast Kansas, the Neodesha Tourism Board, the Morehead Cemetery Board, and was an American Red Cross Bloodmobile volunteer. Irene was a Norman No. 1 Museum Board member for 14 years serving as president for four years. She was a founder of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and a proud life member, serving as president for five years.

Preceding her in death was her husband Bill and daughter Christine (Gudde) Livingston; her parents Frank and Myrtle; two sisters, Helen Osburn and Ilah Bennett; one brother Lloyd Smalley; and one son-in-law Bill Burgoon.

Survivors include Theresa (Gudde) Allen and husband David of Derby, Kansas; Marilyn (Gudde) Seller and husband Dennis of rural Neodesha; Sue (Gudde) Burgoon of Topeka, Kansas; William D. "Bill" Gudde of rural Neodesha; son-in-law Jeff Livingston of rural Neodesha; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; all of whom she dearly loved.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Neodesha.
