Neodesha, Kansas

Joyce Elaine Wolfe passed away at her home on the afternoon of August 9, 2022 in
Neodesha, KS at the age of 85. A visitation will be on Friday August 12, 2022 at Loran Fawcett
Chapel, 704 Indiana in Neodesha, KS from 6 P.M to 8 P.M. Guests are welcome to gather to
meet with friends and family of Joyce Wolfe.
Joyce Elaine Wolfe was born on October 24, 1936 in Neodesha, KS to Fred Sweeney and
Cloe (Linville) Sweeney. Joyce attended Neodesha High School where she graduated in 1954.
Upon graduation, Joyce married Conrad Dee Wolfe on July 11, 1954 at the First Baptist Church
in Neodesha, KS. The two were happily married for 67 years until Conrad’s passing on August
6, 2021. Joyce is survived by her four children Jill Wallace, Karen Clingman, Curtis Wolfe, and
Dallas Wolfe as wells as five grandchildren Brett Dick-Wolfe, Matthew Clingman, Cheye
Wolfe, Billy Wolfe and Montie Wallace.
In her younger years, Joyce worked on her family’s dairy farm, the Sweeney Dairy Farm
east of Neodesha, KS. She had two brothers Bob and Max as well as two sisters Doris and Lois
Sweeney. After graduating from Neodesha High School and wedding Conrad, she worked as a
phone operator before beginning her career as a nursing assistant at the Wilson County Hospital.
Joyce eventually became a certified respiratory therapist. She excelled to the head of the
department during her career and retired after 20 plus years as a respiratory therapist at the
Wilson County Hospital. After retiring, she worked part time as para-professional at Heller
Elementary School in Neodesha. Joyce and Conrad loved to travel the country during their
retirement. They traveled all across the United States as well as Alaska and the Canada in their
travel trailer.
Joyce, when she was not travelling with Conrad or caring for her grandchildren enjoyed
reading and cooking. Everyone especially enjoyed eating Joyce’s home cooking. They both
enjoyed living in and near the town of Neodesha where they have made many memories with
friends and family. One example is when Joyce went to the bank in town and mistakenly ran into
the outside of the bank with her car. When explaining to the bank what happened, she explained
that “Conrad told me to run into the bank in town so I did”. Joyce was a faithful wife, loving
mother and grandmother and she will remain with us in our hearts. Joyce was preceded in death
by Fred Sweeney, Cleo (Linville) Sweeney, Max Sweeney, Lois Myers and Doris Thomas.
Memorials in Joyce’s name can be made the W.A Rankin Memorial Library and can be left with
Loran Fawcett Chapel of Neodesha.
