Kay Rutledge

Fredonia, Kansas

Sara Kay Bicknell Rutledge, daughter of Roscoe and Anna (Redington) Jackson, was born February 8, 1938, in Monett, MO and passed away at Morningstar Care Home in Fredonia, KS September 1, 2022, at the age of 84.

Kay grew up on the family farm where she preferred farm chores to housework and enjoyed playing the piano at New Liberty Methodist Church. She graduated from Monett High School in 1956. She later moved to Tulsa, OK where she met Linn Douglas “Doug” Bicknell. They were united in marriage August 28, 1964, in Miami, OK and returned to Doug’s hometown of Neodesha where they raised their three daughters. Doug passed away September 25, 2006.

Kay worked for Dr. Frank Moorhead and later for Dr. Allen Moorhead for many years. She retired from Millenium Rail where she worked as a purchasing agent.

She married Arthur Rutledge on February 19, 2011. Art resides in Neodesha.

Survivors include her husband Arthur Rutledge; daughters Joni (Steve) Berry, Sheri (Don) Crabtree and Elizabeth (Duey) Lynch; grandchildren Amanda (Robert) Gray, Kayla (Terry) Mathis, Anna Berry, James Berry, LeAnn Storm (Chase Millward), Adam Cortelyou, Matthew (Dawn) Lynch, Melissa Lynch and Morgan Lynch; great-grandchildren Chase and Averie Gray, Irelynn and Lily Mathis, Paxton and Ellison Storm, Ada, Lexi, and Jett Millward, Rayne and Rylan Cortelyou, Lily Lynch, Kashe and Aviana Lynch, Bentley Lynch; sister-in-law’s Maxine Jackson Schad and Ann (Lawrence) Bennett. Also surviving is her step-daughter Ann (Jeff) Piatt; step-grandchildren Joshua (Johna) Piatt and Tiffany (Benny) Culbertson; step great-grandchildren Jacie and Justice Piatt and Takoda and Benton Culbertson.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, husband Doug, sisters Maxine Lee, Wautheda Wilson and Ruth Carter; brothers Norman Jackson and Oran Jackson.

Kay requested cremation and no service. Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2022 at the Neodesha Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Braden’s Hope for Childhood Cancer and sent to Loren Fawcett Chapel, 704 Indiana St., Neodesha, KS 66757 or to Joni Berry, PO Box 307, Lenora, KS 67645 in honor of her great-grandson Chase Gray.

The family would like to recognize the excellent care Mom received at Morningstar Care Home in Fredonia since February.
