Monta Chamberlain

February 13, 1921 — December 5, 2015

Monta Fay Archer Chamberlain, 94, of Collinsville, OK, passed away on December 5, 2015, at the Owasso Bailey Medical Center.

Fay was born on February 13, 1921, in Joplin, MO, to George and Mable Archer. She moved to Neodesha, with her parents soon after she was born. When she was in the fifth grade, they moved to Ava, MO. Fay always felt that the time spent on the farm and in the country school was the most valuable time of her life. The family returned to Neodesha when Fay was 12 years old.

Fay graduated from the Neodesha High School and attended Independence Junior College for two years before starting to work at the ordinance plant in Parsons. It was on the bus rides to work that she met the love of her life, Les Chamberlain. After his return from World War II, they were married in Neodesha on July 6, 1946.

Fay worked at Bodley Hardware Store, First National Bank and the Neodesha High School while raising her children. She was known for her volunteer activities, including the North Lawn PTA, the North Lawn Girls Scout troop as their leader for many years, the Heller School Breakfast Program, and the Rankin Memorial Library. She was a life long member of the Neodesha United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Sunday Night Bridge Club and the Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

For the past three years Fay lived in Collinsville, OK, with her daughter, Kathy Holman. Kathy not only cared for her but kept her entertained and active with weekly visits to the local garage sales, playing with the puppies and watching the baby calves.

Fay is survived by her children; Karen Malnar and husband Tom of Golden, MO, Kathleen Holman and husband Ted of Collinsville, OK; grandchildren; Kristen Wooden of Tulsa, OK, Terri Hunter of Owasso, OK, Amy Malnar of Broken Arrow, OK, Andy Malnar of Tempe, AZ, Jeff Holman of Owasso, OK, Taylor Holman of Owasso, OK and Cali Holman, Owasso, OK, great-grandchildren; Elizabeth Wooden of Bristow, OK, Brandon Hunter of Owasso, OK, Beau Wooden of Skiatook, OK, and Zachary Hunter of Owasso, OK, brothers, Jim Archer of California and Sam Archer of Arkansas.

Fay was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mable Archer, husband, Leslie Chamberlain, daughter in law, Melinda Bowman Chamberlain and son, Randy Chamberlain.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, December 12, 2015, at 1:00pm at the Neodesha United Methodist Church, Rev. Soyeong Son officiating. Visitation will be at the church beginning at 12:00.

The Loren Fawcett Funeral Home in Neodesha is in charge of the arrangements. Flowers or memorials may be left with the funeral home. Memorials may be made out to the W.A. Rankin Memorial Library or to the organization of your choice.

Fay was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a loyal friend to many and a role model of kindness and humility to all who knew her.
