Patsy Huguenin

August 25, 1986 — April 29, 2022

Newton, Kansas

`Patsy Darline Warkentine, 89, the middle child of Hazel Violet McKee Warkentine and Henry Mac Warkentine, died April 29, 2022, in Newton, KS. Darline’s first husband, Jimmy Darrel Proffitt, preceded her in death on April 1, 1979, and she lost her second husband, Lowell “Spud” Huguenin, on August 25, 1986. Spud was the love of her life, and they shared five wonderful years together. Darline fondly remembered many trips to the Ozarks on the back of Spud’s motorcycle. They shared the love of friends, children and grandchildren and enjoyed gardening, traveling, and rehabbing a house in rural Independence, Kansas.

Darline is survived by three children: Coletta Zernick (Bill), Tomball, TX, Darrel Proffitt (Julie), Lawrence, KS, and Teresa Railsback (Don), Wichita, KS. Darline was also the proud grandmother of eleven and was preceded in death by her grandson Joseph Mills Proffitt. Other grandchildren include Joshua Clemmer, Phillip Clemmer (Crystal), Brendan Clemmer, Megan (Nate) Clemmer, Jacqueline Clemmer, Emily Mills Proffitt (Timothy), John Mills Proffitt, Erin Potter (Ryan), Abigail Railsback, and Daniel Railsback. She was also the great- grandmother of thirteen, with another great- grandchild on the way, expected this summer. Spud’s children, Danny, Rick, Randy, and Kim were also a part of Darline’s life. Her brother Jack preceded her in death on May 11, 2001, and she is survived by her sister Ruth, of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Darline was born in Fairview, Oklahoma and dreamed of becoming a nurse. While that dream was never realized, Darline did spend many of her last years working as a Respiratory Therapist Technician at Wilson County Hospital. Darline worked for many years at Stevie Toggs as a Manager, Airosol Company, and for several years managed Don’s Daylight Donuts in Neodesha. Darline also worked at several other locations in the Neodesha/Independence area. She loved to sew and made her daughter Teresa’s wedding dress.

Darline was a unique person, unafraid of speaking her mind to anyone who was within listening distance. She was an avid reader, and a faithful Christian who became involved at First Christian Church in Neodesha during the last number of years of her life before moving to Newton. She leaves many friends with whom she shared a love of shopping, seeing new places, and discovering new interests. One of her favorite hobbies during her last years was watching the QVC shopping network, always ready to buy the newest gadget being sold.

Darline moved to Neodesha in 1959 where her third child, Teresa Arlene Railsback, was born. Teresa joined two siblings, Coletta Ann Zernick and Darrel Dwayne Proffitt, to complete Darline’s immediate family. The Proffitts moved to Neodesha where they lived next to long-time residents Ramona and Loren Peck and their children, which began a lifelong friendship.

Darline is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and friends too numerous to list. Her strong faith and love for her children were constants in her life. Raising her children by herself was a legacy which marked her life. Through it all, Darline maintained a love of family, a zest for life, and a deep abiding faith that saw her through many challenges. She was young at heart, and often humorously remarked that she never wanted to be reminded of her adult children’s ages as she didn’t want anyone to guess her own age.

A celebration of Darline’s life will be held on July 16, 2022, at 11:00AM at the First Christian Church of Neodesha in Neodesha, Kansas. A memorial to Soul and Heart Hospice in Wichita, KS has been established. Their address is 2414 Woodlawn Blvd., Wichita, KS 67220.
