Maxine Schooley

January 16, 1924 — April 28, 2020

Maxine Eleanor (Wichman) Schooley took a peaceful journey to be with her Lord and Savior while at Morning Star Care Homes in Neodesha, Ks. under the care of Harry Hynes Hospice on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at 5:16p.m. Maxine had a servant’s heart, always wanting to do for others. She lived the verse “I have fought a good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7.

A celebration of life service for Maxine E Schooley has been scheduled for Saturday, June 26, 2021, at 1:30p.m. The service will take place at the Neodesha United Methodist Church in Neodesha, KS.

Maxine Eleanor Wichman was born January 16, 1924, in Greenleaf, KS. the daughter of Ernest Herman and Alma A (Spreen) Wichman. Maxine graduated from Clifton High School and began at the age of 16. She taught in a country school for 41/2 years. After teaching she attended Mary Mount College in Salina, KS. and achieved her license as a Nurse. Maxine work with newborns, and also did private duty nursing.

Maxine met Kenneth Schooley at a New Year’s Eve dance in 1946. Kenneth was known to tell the story of seeing Maxine and asking a friend “Who is that cute little gal”? He managed to be dancing with Maxine as they rang in the New Year of 1947.Kenneth and Maxine were united in marriage May 5, 1948, at the Presbyterian Church in Clay Center, KS.

During their years in Clay Center Maxine wore many hats. She was a wife, mother, Sunday School Teacher, and held many volunteer jobs while helping Kenneth with ground farming and dairy farming. They attended Church at Hay’s Methodist Church, Four-mile Presbyterian Church, and the Covenant Church in Clay Center, KS.

In 1998 Kenneth, Maxine and their daughter Lora moved to Neodesha, Ks. where they attended Bethel Church and Grace Baptist Church in Neodesha, KS Maxine made friends easily after their move and quickly became part of the community.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, daughter Lora, four sisters, five brothers, one grandchild, and one great grandchild.

Maxine is survived by her children Gary Schooley and wife Paula of Abilene, KS, D’Ann Adams and husband Don of Neodesha, KS, Karolyn Schultz and husband Gary of Neodesha, KS. 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren.

Maxine was laid to rest during a private graveside service held Saturday, May2 at Shelly Cemetery in Neodesha, KS. Memorials in Maxine’s name can be left to “Big Lakes Developmental Center” in Clay Center, KS. and can be left at Loran Fawcett Chapel in Neodesha, KS.
